Antecdotal Epidiolex

Antecdotal Epidiolex

When Senator Gillebrand mentioned in The Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control hearing about the current state of cannabis research being primarily in the hands of one pharmaceutical company, she was talking about GW Pharmaceutical. They've been working on marijuana based medicines in top "secret locations" at least since the mid nineties. Their highly anticipated CBD pharmaceutical … [Read more...] about Antecdotal Epidiolex

The Hearing

The Hearing

I woke up multitasking Wednesday morning. While making the boys breakfast, I bounced back and forth between Facebook and my text messages. In that exact moment, The Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control was wrapping up their hearing on research and the potential medicinal benefits of cannabidiol. Our community was reacting online. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYOcDouVkG4 If you … [Read more...] about The Hearing

Our Lucky Sea Turtle Babies

Our Lucky Sea Turtle Babies

Despite wearing a helmet, my son's face was injured when it fell into the table at our first epilepsy support group meeting. Beth was the first person to reassure me. She has a crew of boys and 2 of them are the same ages as my 2 boys. Her son with epilepsy is the same age as my boy with epilepsy, and their intractable seizure disorders presented very similarly. At the time our kids were both … [Read more...] about Our Lucky Sea Turtle Babies

By The Graces Of The Goddess

"Hello? Are you still there?" My phone has been dropping calls lately. The line remained flat until she came up for air with a shallow, pressured breath. She sobbed. My heart fell into the hard stone that was now my solar plexus. With a slow breath, I answered my own question, "I know, mama. I'm still here too." Still holding that line with you. The one that feels . . . so . . . thin . . . … [Read more...] about By The Graces Of The Goddess

Exploring hegemony with a “tiny little mother mind ™”

Exploring hegemony with a “tiny little mother mind ™”

I like fancy words. I won’t remember how to say them right and feel silly when I use them, but I love it when other people do. They catch my attention and I always learn something extra. And when I was an anthropology student* there were a lot of fancy words to learn. Each quarter I began to notice that there was always one that would rise to the top, one word that every professor all seemed to t … [Read more...] about Exploring hegemony with a “tiny little mother mind ™”

Not Ordinary Gold

Not Ordinary Gold

I've been wanting to write about safety and the value of lab testing for some time now and a couple of rattling recent events finally motivated me. First, my son has had a few breakthrough seizures. Since we did just happen to switch to a new batch of his high CBD oil, it felt prudent to get it tested. So I filled up a one milliliter syringe and brought it down to SD PharmLabs, our local San Diego … [Read more...] about Not Ordinary Gold

Aniatos and other rude words*

Aniatos and other rude words*

* My mom's been known to accuse me of talking like a truck driver. (Maybe even a tattoo shop owner?) So warning: this entry includes mild adult language. About eight weeks ago I found a curious word in an unexpected place. As quickly as it caught my eye, I googled aniatos and learned that it is the Greek word for "incurable, without remedy." I spent about a day wondering about my friend who … [Read more...] about Aniatos and other rude words*

“Just a mom”

March 15, 2015 By Allison Ray Benavides

“Just a mom”

Last night at my house I was honored to host a case conference of sorts. Some moms in our group were struggling with their children's treatment plans so we called in an extra resource to consult. We are very lucky to have in our local San Diego community a mom who has been using pediatric cannabis for years and is a bold advocate for our children, Kelley Dalby. I first learned about Kelley … [Read more...] about “Just a mom”

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

February 22, 2015 By Allison Ray Benavides

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Our family wants to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who came out and supported our children on Feb 15th at Flying Panther Tattoo. The fundraising event was a huge success - in 1 day we tattooed over 50 folks, shared our message of hope with families who drove in from all over the state and raised over 12 thousand dollars for the Realm of Caring, CA. Our new friend Lynn Johnson from National … [Read more...] about THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Celebrating Our Successes: Upcoming Fundraising Event

January 11, 2015 By Allison Ray Benavides

Our family's journey with pediatric cannabis began in February 2013 when our then three-year-old son was diagnosed with intractable epilepsy. At his worst he could have upwards of 75 seizures a day while taking anti-epileptic drugs. Over time it was looking like he may have Doose Syndrome and he failed his second medication. With a less than 7% chance that any medication combination would help … [Read more...] about Celebrating Our Successes: Upcoming Fundraising Event
